This month a open distribution was launched in the wake of Opensolaris. Christened ‘Indiana’it is a development release of a binary distribution built on build 147 out of the OpenSolaris open source code. Oracle discontinued OpenSolaris in favour of developing the next generation of Solaris officially confirming it will launching Solaris 11 Express towards the end of 2010. the new binary distribution with a propitiatory flavour will spring board an enhanced Oracle application portfolio aimed at data enterprise to compete with the products from competitors such as IBM. Oracles announcement put an end to speculation as to the future of opensolaris.This left many customers and the Opensource community around Opensolaris about what comes next.
